Nellie Conner Lewis and her husband Simon Peter Lewis

Nellie
was born in July of 1892, daughter of James
Jr. and Anna Wise Conner in Marion County, South Carolina.
Growing up the eldest child on the family farm, she, like
other children of her day, was expected to do her share
of the farm chores and help with the care of the younger
children.
Nellie
married Simon Peter Lewis and together they had one child,
Mary Helen, born September 20, 1922 and who died only 34
years later on June 24, 1956 and is buried
at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Nellie was
a caring wife and mother, absolutely devoted to Simon and a devout
member of Wise Chapel, an A.M.E. Church. Simon died February 22,
1959 and is buried at Greenlawn Cemetery.
She also
worked for many years for the Rogers family, helping them to raise
their children.
Nellie died
August 8, 1981 and is buried at Greenlawn
Cemetery .
