Nellie Conner Johnson and her husband Edward Johnson

Nellie was the daughter of James Sr. and Nellie Conner, born in Jeffreys Township, Florence County, South Carolina, probably in 1870 as she is listed in the 1870 census (with her father's household) as being 6 months old.

We find her listed again in the 1880 census, this time reported as being 10 years old.

Not knowing Nellie's married name makes it difficult to know more about her life. A thorough search of the 1900 census of Jeffreys Township for anyone by the same name as Nellie and her sisters, and who fell into the approximate age and race criteria, did reveal only one woman named Nellie (while numerous cases of her sister's names appeared).

This Nellie, Nellie Johnson, was the wife of Edward Johnson. She was born in August 1869 and had 6 children: Philip, Nena, Eugene, Edward Jr., Matilda, and Nelie.

Further searches may prove or disprove her to be our Nellie.
