Desdie ("Sissy") Conner Davis
 Desdie,
known as "Sissy", was born March 7, 1898, daughter of
James Jr. and Anna Wise Conner in Marion
County, South Carolina.
Growing up
on the family farm, she, like other children of her day, was expected
to do her share of the farm chores and help with the care of the
younger children. All the children would say that Desdie could
pick more cotton than any of them. Two hundred pounds a day was
considered quite a lot, but she could easily top that by picking
three to five hundred pounds.
Desdie was
married for only a short time and never had any children of her
own. But she did adopt Martha Lee Moore and was a devoted mother
to her. Martha grew up to become a psychiatrist, living and working
in South Africa.
Desdie died
March 6, 1987 and was buried at Devotional
Gardens in Marion..
