Allen Conner and his wife Janie (and Jenny) Conner

Allen was born March 5, 1880, the son of James Conner Sr. and Nellie. The census that same year shows him living with his parents in Jeffrey's Township, Floerence County, South Carolina. The 1900 census shows him then living with his brother David and their stepmother, still in Jeffrey's Township.

The 1930 census shows Allen as a Mars Bluff farmer and owning his own farm at a time when most of his neighbors rented their houses. Records show that he registered for the draft in 1918 and that was where his birth date was discovered. His first wife was Janie and his second wife was Jenny.

Allen was tall and slender. He could read and write, a noted accomplishment as many people, both black and white, of that day were illiterate.

He and Jenny attended church in Mars Bluff and together they had seven children: David "D.W.", Albert, Eva, Annie, James, Daniel, and Allen Jeff Jr.

Allen died on September 12, 1938 at the age of 58 and was buried in Gibson Cemetery (undertaker was Mothers Memorial Mortuary of Florence).
